10 ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE IN A COUPLE MINUTES EACH

Text taken with permission from Facebook post by Jason Guille (some edits and additions made)

Interested in making a difference for OLD GROWTH FORESTS & the protection of #FairyCreek but also - your own life is big and you don't have much time or bandwidth right now?

No problem, we totally get it.

Here's 10 actions you can take in a couple minutes each:

1) DONATE A FEW DOLLARS:

This is a volunteer driven, grassroots, direct-action movement to protect the last remaining ancient temperate rainforests on Vancouver Island, and even a few bucks goes a loooooong way. https://www.gofundme.com/.../direct-action-for-ancient...

2] ‘FOLLOW’ TO STAY UP TO DATE:

Join the Rainforest Flying Squad to get key updates from all our amazing heroes on the frontlines:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/3000229293436275

3) CALL or EMAIL THE PREMIER:

Call Premier John Horgan as many times as you can, leave him a voicemail, and send him an email. Tell him you want him to make good on his "worth more standing" Old Growth Strategy pledges. You can also call Minister Forest Katrine Conroy.

John Horgan: (250) 387-1715 - premier@gov.bc.ca

Katrine Conroy: (250) 387-6240

Or use the forms below to send or edit pre-written emails to:

John Horgan (Premier and President of the Executive Council), British Columbia, BC NDP *the only recipient if you live outside of BC

Katrine Conroy (Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development), British Columbia , BC NDP

Jordan Sturdy (MLA), West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, BC Liberal Party

Murray Rankin (Indigenous Relations Minister), British Columbia, BC NDP

George Heyman (Environment and Climate Change Minister), British Columbia, BC NDP

Melanie Mark (Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport), British Columbia , BC NDP

Nathan Cullen (Minister of State for Lands and Natural Resource Operations), British Columbia, BC NDP

4) PROTECT THE SCREECH OWL:

Contact our local Enforcement Officer where you can report a violation of the Species At Risk Act under section 58 in regards to destroying threatened screech owl habitat:

Jarrett Brochez / (250) 756-7248 / jarrett.brochez@canada.ca

https://opengovca.com/employee/Brochez,_Jarrett

5) CALL TEAL JONES:

Call Teal Jones and ask why they are actively logging next to tree sitters and tell them how dangerous and unethical it is. Ask them why protecting old growth doesn't matter. Their number is (604) 587-8700.

Or you can email these three folks: Len van Ryswyk lvanryswyk@tealjones.com // Kiel Miller kmiller@tealjones.com // Jim Hergert jhergert@tealjones.com

6) CONTACT CLIENTS OF TEAL JONES:

Please contact Distributors of Teal-Jones Red Cedar Products in Canada and in the US. Scroll down this page and click on the "Distributors" option (under the photos). Please be nice and respectful to them, as many would have no idea what Teal is up to. A nice request to take their business elsewhere is a good approach.

Sample call or email:

Hello,

I am writing/calling today to ask that you stop carrying Teal Cedar Products because Teal-Jones is clearcutting the last ancient old growth forest on southwestern Vancouver Island at Fairy Creek, and in so doing is putting the endangered Western Screech Owl there at risk, in addition to putting a Salmon hatchery on Fairy Lake at risk. Teal-Jones is providing its distributors with false information about the value of old growth forest as the best for capturing CO2. In addition, Teal-Jones is not complying with the Canadian Standards Association Sustainable Forest Management Standards, which require: recognition of environmental, economic, social and cultural values, conservation of biological diversity, and ongoing public participation. Teal-Jones is violating the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification, because Teal-Jones Risk Assessment for avoidance of raw material from controversial sources fails to properly assess the Fairy Creek Watershed.

7) LEAVE TEAL JONES A GOOGLE REVIEW:

Using THIS link, you can quickly and easily leave TEAL JONES a Google Review sharing your thoughts on their greedy choices, their short-sightedness, their colonial & extractive forestry practices... whatever is true for you (add a photo!):
