Shannon Heather

she/her

I’m Shannon Heather, a Canadian photographer who enjoys campfires, good coffee, and first tracks.

I began shooting when I was thirteen, and quickly started spending my high school lunch hours in the darkroom. I took every photography course I could while completing a Fine Arts Diploma and later, a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a Photography minor.

My experience grew, and my work in photojournalism now spans fourteen years, including publications in VICE, Future Music Magazine, and Rolling Stone.

My favourite style to shoot is documentary; whether it’s capturing the smoke haze from a self-rolled banana leaf cigarette a Cambodian village elder rests on the gums of a toothless grin, the brief but meaningful look a proud groom shoots his dad from the alter, or the sweat as it drips off the brow of a crowd-surfing guitarist mid-solo.

I shoot portraits, events, weddings, and adventure sports in Whistler, Squamish, Vancouver, and around the world. I believe in inclusivity, and aim to elevate the voices of those with varying gender expressions, sexualities, ethnicities, and disabilities.

I’ve lived in the Sea to Sky for over 6 years, and currently reside in Squamish, BC, where I snowboard, paddle board, and adventure with my rescue pup, Laika.

I would like to gratefully and respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Lilwat7úl (Lil’wat) Nations. I honour their language, culture and history.
